Did you know
that helping others is described as ‘warm-glow giving’? It’s true, it’s a
theory that describes the satisfaction a person gets from doing their part.*
That’s pretty cool, we at Daytona Homes, didn’t know that, and we helped out
anyway, all just because we care. The warm-glow was just an added benefit.
And, shucks,
you know what else? We got an award. Yup, The Community Service Award from BILD
Alberta Awards, we couldn’t be more honored. So ya, I guess this is a bit of a
humble brag, ‘cos we’re so darn proud of our Daytona Homes Family. Here’s just
some of what we did even with Covid-19.
Mustard Seed
·
In December 2020, our Calgary team
spent a day at the Mustard Seed helping to sort and pack kits as part of our
annual ‘Daytona Cares Day’ initiative where all staff participate in volunteer
time during the holiday season.
Salvation
Army
·
In November 2020, we arrived at the
Edmonton Salvation Army and found just one person sitting alone stuffing
bags—500 bags. Without hesitation, our team dove in and helped out, we spent
an afternoon packing essential bags
to distribute to the city’s homeless. These bags included warm socks, toques,
toothbrushes and toothpaste, hand sanitizer, masks, and more!
·
This was part of our annual ‘Daytona
Cares Day’ initiative.
Edmonton
Down Syndrome Society
·
Daytona Homes has been a supporter
of the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society for many years. In November 2020, we
partnered with EDSS on their reimagined annual fall event, Uniquely Me TV. In
lieu of their usual gala, we assisted in organizing, administering, sourcing,
and promoting an online auction to accompany their TV special.
Stollery
Radiothon
·
Daytona Homes has long been a Power Hour
sponsor for the Stollery Radiothon. In January 2021, we did it again.
·
This time, we were unable to
participate in person, but our staff volunteered to assist with the virtual
phone bank. One member of our team, who was a Stollery Kid herself, also
bravely shared her story on-air to encourage people to call into the radiothon.
·
The money raised through this year’s
Radiothon helped fund the best people, programs, research, and the purchase of
much needed specialized equipment to help kids at the Stollery.
Site Clean
Up
·
In May 2021, our entire Edmonton
staff participated in site cleanups throughout our communities of Secord
Heights, Chappelle Gardens, and Jensen Lakes
·
Over the winter, a large amount of
trash had accumulated, and not only is litter unsightly, but it can also
negatively impact residents’ sense of community and safety. By actively keeping
our sites clean, we are doing our part in protecting our environment animals,
and children.
Thank you to
everyone for always being ready and willing to lend a hand in our communities
and help out the awesome organizations that we work with!
